ABOUT

The Park

The Mangrove Biodiversity Park in Karachi, developed in collaboration with the Sindh Forest Department, is Pakistan’s first park dedicated to mangrove biodiversity. Located along the Korangi Creek, it is a space where visitors can connect with nature and explore one of Karachi’s most vital coastal ecosystems.

The park aims to raise awareness and understanding of the important role mangroves play in protecting our shoreline, supporting biodiversity, and contributing to climate resilience.

Its design features innovative techniques that blend nature with infrastructure. For example, the boardwalk is made from waste wood and other upcycled, sustainable materials is structurally engineered to float and follows natural passages, harmonising with tidal levels. This pathway takes visitors through the mangroves, offering a closer look at the habitat and its native flora and fauna.

More than a recreational space, the park supports education, local livelihoods, and sustainable development — all the while celebrating the natural heritage of our seaside city.

ON-SITE

Features

RECEPTION & COFFEE SHOP

A welcome area for the visitors to buy their tickets at the venue, made with reclaimed wood and stone locally present in the area, to keep the area’s vernacular feel. There is a coffee shop serving snacks etc. and a merchandising section.

LEARNING CENTER

The Learning Center is a 36-foot floating hexagonal structure made from sustainable materials that blend naturally with its surroundings. It serves as both a welcoming entry point and a hub for learning within the Mangrove Biodiversity Park. This versatile space hosts a range of activities, from educational workshops and community events to corporate sessions, yoga classes, and more.

BIRD WATCHING TOWER

Coming soon to the park, the Birdwatching Tower will offer a unique, elevated view of the mangroves. Constructed from bamboo, the tower’s design will allow visitors to observe birds without disturbing them. Its structure will provide natural concealment, making it ideal for bird enthusiasts, researchers, and anyone curious about the rich avian life of the area.

BOARDWALK

A 1,200-foot meandering boardwalk winds through the heart of the mangrove park, offering an immersive experience in this unique ecosystem. Designed to float, the boardwalk adapts to changing tidal levels. During high tide, visitors feel as though they are one with the mangrove canopy. At low tide, the mudflats can be seen, exposing a variety of species, showcasing the rich life intertwined with the mangroves.

SAFETY & INFORMATION SIGNAGES

While Park Rangers are available to guide you, interactive information signs are also placed throughout the park. Thoughtfully positioned, these signs provide information on the flora and fauna of the mangrove ecosystem, highlighting the park’s rich biodiversity. Safety signages are also in place to ensure a smooth and secure experience along the floating boardwalk.

A detailed inventory of birds, mammals, and reptiles was compiled after a field survey conducted from September 22nd to November 9th, 2024.
